Product Description

Product Overview Product overview

The LRC-S Series capacitive level gauges provide continuous measurement of liquid levels in open or pressurized vessels. They compare the displacement caused by changes in liquid level with preset alarm thresholds in the instrument. When the liquid level exceeds the set limits, the gauge outputs a contact signal to activate an alarm or material-level controller, triggering either an over-limit alarm or initiating automatic control of the liquid level—either raising or lowering it as needed. These gauges are widely used across industries such as chemical processing, power generation, metallurgy, and petroleum. They are suitable for measuring a variety of media, including acids, alkalis, salt solutions, oils, liquid ammonia, and slurry-like substances. Key features include high measurement accuracy and convenient operational usability.

Measurement Principle Principle

The sensor probe of the LRC-S capacitive level switch forms a measurement system together with the container holding the medium being measured. A schematic diagram of the measurement system is shown in Figure 3-1, while its equivalent circuit principle is illustrated in Figure 3-2. In Figure 3-1, the components are labeled as follows: 1. A conductive cylindrical rod with diameter d. 2. An insulating material. 3. The measuring cylinder or container.

The inner electrode 1 and the measurement cylinder 3 form a coaxial capacitor C.

C = k1 * h1 + k2 * h2
h1 is the material level height
H = h1 + h2
C = k₁ * h₁ + k₂ * (H - h₁) = k₂ * H + (k₁ - k₂) * h₁ (3-1)
Among them: k1*h1 represents the cylindrical capacitance formed by the gas portion.
k2*h2 represents the cylindrical capacitance formed by the material portion.
k1 and k2 are constants related to the measured medium and the container structure.
As a result, the capacitance C between 1 and 3 has a linear relationship with the liquid level h1, so detecting the change in probe capacitance C is sufficient.
Measure the height of the material level.
Figure 3-2 is the equivalent schematic diagram of the actual sensor system, where:
Cg is the equivalent capacitance for sensor material buildup.
Cx represents the incremental capacitance of the sensor caused by changes in liquid level.
R is the equivalent resistance of the sensor's material-hanging section.
When the sensor is coated with material, the portion of the sensor probe covered by the buildup effectively forms a transmission line composed of countless infinitesimally small capacitance and resistance elements. It can be mathematically proven that the real and imaginary parts of the complex impedance caused by the buildup are equal, i.e., 1/R = ω × Cg. Since the measured capacitance C equals Cx + Cg, this principle allows us to eliminate the influence of the buildup capacitance Cg on the measured capacitance during the process—specifically, by leveraging the equality of the real and imaginary components of the buildup's complex impedance. This approach helps mitigate errors introduced by electrode buildup in level measurements, thereby enhancing the instrument's ability to accurately handle complex measurement media. Meanwhile, the sensor's signal processor measures the admittance of the sensor system, from which it separately extracts the susceptance 1/R associated with the buildup resistance and the admittance ωC corresponding to the total capacitance.
C = Cx + Cg, which means
ωC = ω(Cx + Cg) (3-2)
Also, 1/R = ω × Cg (3-3)
Equation (3-2) minus equation (3-3) yields
ωCx = ωC - 1/R (3-4)
The LRC-S series capacitive level switches use the principle outlined in equation (3-4) to perform admittance measurements on the sensor system via radio frequency signals, accurately capturing the true capacitance values that reflect the material level—thereby minimizing the impact of material buildup on level measurement.
