How it works   Working Principle

When fluid enters the flowmeter inlet along the axial direction, the rotating vanes force the fluid into rotational motion, creating a vortex at the center of the vortex generator. This swirling flow then spirals inward through the Venturi tube, accelerating as it passes through the constricted section due to the sudden throttling effect. As the vortex flow abruptly moves into the diffuser section, reverse flow causes it to undergo a secondary, spiral-like rotation. If the instrument features an optimally designed internal geometry, the frequency of the vortex will remain directly proportional to the flow rate—and linear—across a wide measurement range. This frequency is detected by a piezoelectric sensor, which converts the weak electrical signal into a more robust pulse signal. The pulse signal is then amplified, filtered, and shaped by a front-end amplifier before being sent to the flow totalizer for further computation and processing.

Note The flowmeter installation uses the pipe flange standard GB/T 9119-2000, which specifies raised-face, flat-welded steel pipe flanges.

Installation Requirements INSTALLATION

1. Flow meters must not be welded directly onto pipeline flanges while the system is in operation.
2. Before installing the flowmeter, thoroughly clean out any debris, weld spatter, and dust from the pipeline.
3. To facilitate maintenance without disrupting the normal fluid flow, it is recommended to install a bypass pipe as shown in Figure 5.
4. The straight pipe section upstream of the flow meter should be ≥3DN, and the straight pipe section downstream should be ≥1DN.
5. When the gas contains larger particles or longer fibrous impurities, a filter must be installed.
6. The flow meter can be installed vertically or at any angle of inclination.
7. When installing the flowmeter horizontally, it is recommended to install a steel expansion joint (compensator) downstream of the straight pipe section following the flowmeter. The expansion joint must meet the nominal diameter and nominal pressure requirements specified in the pipeline design. (The expansion joint serves to compensate for pipeline stresses and facilitates the easy installation and removal of the flowmeter.)

8. The pressure tapping section is fitted with an M12×1 ferrule, and an 8 mm copper tube is connected to the inlet of the pressure transmitter. If pressure tapping is not required, the flowmeter will already be sealed with a plug at the factory. Note: Pressure taps must not be installed upstream of this series of flowmeters!
9. When installing a flowmeter for outdoor use, it is recommended to equip it with a protective cover to prevent rainwater from entering and direct sunlight from damaging the meter, thereby extending its service life.
10. Strong external magnetic fields and intense mechanical vibrations must be avoided near the flowmeter.
11. The flowmeter must have reliable grounding, but it must not share the same ground wire as the high-voltage electrical system.
